Steps to Become a CFE

Becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) is a globally recognized way to demonstrate expertise in fraud prevention, detection, and investigation

Step 1 Join the ACFE

You must be an ACFE member to apply for the CFE Exam. Membership Benefits: Access to study resources, the ACFE community, discounts on materials, and networking opportunities.

Step 2 Ensure You Meet the Eligibility Requirements

Academic Requirement & Experience
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).

  • If you don’t have a degree, two years of fraud-related professional experience may be substituted for each year of education.

  • Typically at least 2 years in a field related to fraud (e.g., accounting, auditing, law enforcement, investigation, law, or loss prevention).
